Ragi, also known as Finger millet is one of the important cereals which occupies the highest area under cultivation among the small millets in India especially Karnataka. In this modern times, most of us prefer the imported cereals like oats, muesli to keep us hale and healthy…but how many of us know about this wholesome and nutritive cereal which is grown in abundance in our own beautiful country?
Ragi Malt is a natural energy drink that helps keep the body energized and calmed for the entire day. This is usually called a poor man’s health drink and is very popular in villages even now. Most of the previous generation drank this on a daily basis during their childhood days as it’s highly recommended for growing kids. This is also best for a lactating woman.
So now why go for artificial health drinks when you have the power of nature in your hands? And the good news is you could prepare this drink instantly and its economical and importantly it does give that extra boost to kick start your day!!!
Take the Ragi flour in a bowl and add water to it and keep it on low flame, stirring continuously so that no lumps are formed and make it into a smooth paste. Now add milk to the Ragi flour paste while stirring it continuously followed by the cardamom powder and jaggery. Simmer for 5 minutes on low flame with continued stirring and switch off, Cool and enjoy the drink.
You can grind the ragi flour at home (will provide the details later) or you could buy the instant ragi flour which is available in almost all the supermarkets.
You can also make this drink by replacing the milk with butter milk and you could use salt in place of sugar. This cools your body.
You may add nuts or a tsp of shredded coconut for enhanced taste.
